HOW WE WORK

New to specifying bespoke furniture?

Here’s what to expect and the issues to consider, including time scales.

The typical stages for a one-off Ben Whistler piece look like this:

INSPIRATION.

Send us a brief along with a sketch of what you have in mind. Critical information includes the dimensions; finishes; and whether there are any access issues in getting the finished item on site, which will determine how it is made.

We will assist you in anything you’re not sure about ­– for example, we can send you samples of our standard finishes to choose from.

QUOTING.

Once we have all the information we need, we’ll send you a quote. It will include our production lead time, and details about the final delivery.

If you’re happy to proceed, we’ll ask you to draw up a purchase order.

SPECIFICATION & SIGN-OFF.

The sales team now hands over to a project manager, who will look after your project. This is when any finer details of your piece are ironed out, ready for final sign-off: this might include your approval of wood, metal, glass, stitching and paint finishes, as well as other project elements, such as access, electrical specifications or templating for critical dimensions.

Some clients underestimate how long this can take – it is typically two to three weeks, but can be more, especially if work on site is in progress and access or templating is delayed – so ensure you allow for it in your schedule.

PRODUCTION.

Lead times are typically 12 weeks from sign-off, depending on the complexity of the piece and our capacity at the time. The logistics team monitor production to make sure everything is progressing as it should.

Towards the end of this process, they will be in touch to request a final payment and arrange delivery.

DELIVERY.

Once the piece is ready, we can deliver to site, or you can arrange to collect it.
