The Mandrake Hotel
Fitzrovia

The Mandrake is a 34-room boutique hotel with some fearlessly out-there interiors by designer Tala Fustok, who describes it as “timelessly offbeat”. The former Victorian office block, now a playful and opulent hangout, features furniture made by Ben Whistler in both the bedrooms and public areas.

The Mandrake’s cocooning library includes four curving sofas, while the walls are covered with screens in an antique mirror patina, all by Ben Whistler; at 2.5m high, the mirrors were a challenge to source, transport and attach to the walls.
Hand-studded headboards in the bedrooms add to the bohemian eclecticism

Elsewhere the furniture is just as eclectic, from the statement-making curved sofa in the reception lobby, surrounded by olive-green velvet stools with contrast-colour fringed bases, to the bar’s wildly patterned armchairs with their exaggeratedly plump seat-cushions and scrolling backs.
