One Aldwych

Soft curves, a pastel palette and warm-toned brass: Robert Angell International’s overhaul of the guest rooms for One Aldwych has given the hotel a refined new personality. British manufacturing was an important part of the story here, and Ben Whistler developed and made more than 30 designs for the 105 rooms.

Everything appears soft and feminine
From the kidney-shaped sofas to the curved cabinetry on the bedside tables and the oversized wings on headboards for the suites. The overarching challenge was to ensure that the dainty, visually light look that was required could also possess the robustness required for hospitality design.

A mock-up room was created containing the key pieces, to be signed off before full manufacture could go ahead. Further challenges included colour-matching the shade of pink used for the oak-stained furniture to the planned built-in joinery, and invisibly UV-bonding a glass tabletop to its brass base.
