LUXURY LATER LIVING
Riverstone Kensington
london

This new, luxurious concept for later living melds aspects of residential and hospitality design. Procurement company Ambience worked with Ben Whistler to source furniture for the public-facing areas of Riverstone’s first outpost, a new-build complex in Kensington. Interior designers Bowler James Brindley and Riverstone themselves were also involved in the sign-off process.

An opulent green velvet and walnut banquette made for the restaurant is the hero piece of the project.
The aesthetic has much more in common with a luxury hotel than a retirement community, with a number of amenity spaces including a bar, orangery/reception area, restaurant, snug room and club, cinema room, espresso bar, studios and spa.

An opulent green velvet and walnut banquette made for the restaurant is the hero piece of the project: at almost 10 metres long, it integrates steel planters on top and speakers in its base (with removable seat backs to access the speaker electrics), with an elegant brass ‘fiddle rail’ running along the top.

There was a lot of emphasis on making sure that seat depths and heights were easy to get in and out of, with firmer seating – all suitable for older users, but without sacrificing style or comfort. This was a consideration across the project, from the banquette to the cosy red velvet cinema chairs.
