Brasserie of Light
at Selfridges

Dominated by a huge crystal sculpture of Pegasus by Damien Hirst, Brasserie of Light is Selfridges’ first after-hours establishment, in a newly built extension by Chipperfield architects. Ben Whistler was commissioned to make all the banquettes in this bold and colourful space.

Some of the banquettes are impressive in size – 9.3m long
But the greater challenge was turning the work around in a short time (a six-week lead time, as opposed to the usual eight to ten weeks). In addition, the installation had to happen overnight to minimise disruption.
Some 700 square metres of leather were used in all

Because of their size, the longer banquettes were delivered in sections and fixed together on site. The banquettes are upholstered in a blue Verbier leather from Whistler Leather, while a custom shade of Bilbao was developed for the distinctive yellow chairs and coral bar stools.
