BARS & RESTAURANTS
The Berkeley Bar & Terrace
The Berkeley
Knightsbridge

Bryan O’Sullivan Studio (BOS) has brought old-world glamour to the Berkeley Hotel’s intimate Berkeley Bar & Terrace, devising a sensual scheme that’s full of exaggerated curves in soft coral, cream and pink. Ben Whistler delivered several pieces for this project, including The Snug’s candyfloss-pink banquette.

A number of designs underwent a development journey to make sure they were exactly right.
A wingback armchair was elongated to make the armrests more accessible and comfortable, for example, while pumpkin-like upholstered stools have exactly the right degree of firmness and definition.
Bold and eye-catching shapes

The furniture and banquettes feature a mix of bold, eye-catching shapes, such as the seating’s near-spherical walnut feet, and subtle detail that can only be appreciated up-close, like the upholstered pieces’ use of mohair and leather in the same colour. Ben Whistler also developed a leather and oiled-oak stool for the terrace.

THE CRAFT: A BESPOKE FIT
To make sure that the banquette was an exact fit for this snug alcove, there was an initial site survey to measure up and template the space, followed by continual coordination with the main contractor. The frame was modelled up in 3D, and the resulting CAD drawing was translated into of CNC machined components, which were assembled together to create the frame. The frame was ‘dry fitted’ on-site to double check it was a good fit, before it was upholstered and installed on site.
